My Peace Corps Timeline

I know many Peace Corps applicants out there grow anxious as they undergo and make their way through the application process, so I thought I’d provide my own personal timeline. Keep in mind the process may vary drastically depending on your particular circumstances, but stay positive and you’ll get through it!


Application to Invite: 367 days

Application to Departure: 438 days


January 20, 2011 – Began my application

February 27, 2011 – Completed and submitted my application

March 7, 2011 – Contacted by Peace Corps recruiter to schedule an interview

March 15, 2011 – Interview with Peace Corps

May 6, 2011 – Received Peace Corps nomination for Secondary English Teaching in North Africa/Middle East region to depart in March, 2012

May 25, 2011 – Received my medical packet in mail

September 24, 2011 – Finally completed and submitted medical packet

November 11, 2011 – Received medical clearance

November 18, 2011 – Received follow-up email from Peace Crops placement officer, requesting an updated resume, my final transcripts, a skill addendum including any ESL or literacy experience I’ve gained since applying, and completion of an educational questionnaire concerning teaching in a developing country

December 1, 2011 – Submitted the above material requested my placement officer

January 6, 2012 – Received an email from a Peace Corps placement and assessment specialist to schedule my final interview. This email also notified me that my my initial program site had been closed and that I may now be nominated for a program in Asia or Africa.

January 10, 2012 – Final interview conducted over the phone

January 13, 2012 – Received an email informing me that I have officially been invited to the Peace Corps and to expect my invitation packet to arrive in the days to come

January 18, 2012 – Received my invitation packet in mail informing me that I will be serving in Indonesia, departing April 7, 2012

January 22, 2012 – Accepted invitation

April 1, 2012 – Pre-departure staging

April 2, 2012 – DEPART FOR INDONESIA!!!
